Project of the Government Programme for Social Participation of Senior Citizens for 2014-2020

The main priority of new government programme is engaging the non-governmental organizations into actions, which will give older people more opportunities in the areas of education, social integration and social services. Financial support will be allowed for actions which provide the possibilities to lead independent and active life.The programme assumptions are meant to result in social awareness, that participation of the older people in the public life is important for their active and healthy ageing.

The main goal of The Government Programme for Social Participation of Senior Citizens for years 2014-2020 is improvement of the current situation of senior citizens by social participation, which will be fulfilled by realization of following priorities:

1)      Development of different forms of education services and improvement of education offers quality for senior citizens, which means:

a)      creation of more relevant offers for people in a difficult position like, for instance experiencing social exclusion;

b)      promotion of new solutions, which enable the learning process as a way to be active all life long, directed especially to older people in difficulr life situation;

c)      creation of age friendly environment, which will enable to develop relevant cultural and educational offer.

2)      Creation of conditions leading to integration of senior citizens by using the social infrastructure, especially rising the knowledge about biological, health and social changes, which are associated with ageing, as part of preparation of the society to old age.

3)      Development of different forms of social participation, especially promotion of volunteering, participation in decision process and involvement of senior citizens in the creation of public policy.

4)      Rising the accessibility of the social services as well as supporting the self-organized actions such as:

a)      development of the support systems, which help to satisfy the specific needs of older people, especially those with disabilities,

b)      creation of social services in the field of sport, tourism, culture and recreation.    

Projects can be performed in the four priority areas as follows:

  1. Education of senior citizens.
  2. Social participation, which promotes integration within and between generations.
  3. Social participation of senior citizens.
  4. Social services for senior citizens.
